Elizabeth Huff Rodewald grew up (was baptized, confirmed, and married) and served as a Sunday School teacher at St. Andrews, Highland Park. She transferred to Fox Chapel Episcopal Church in 1965 where together with her husband Bill, she taught Sunday School for over 20 years. Betsy graduated from Pittsburgh Theological Seminary in 1980 with a M.A.. She served at St. Paul’s, Mt. Lebanon as Christian Education Director until 1983 when she returned to serve at Fox Chapel in the same capacity at the request of Father Dix. Bishop Appleyard appointed her head of the Diocesan Department of Christian Education. In 1988 Betsy was ordained a permanent Deacon. It would be hard to overestimate Betsy’s contributions to the church throughout the years. She has been widely honored, receiving the St. George Episcopal Award for outstanding service, and she has served as both Vice President and President of the Diocesan Council, as well as serving on the Diocesan Mission Committee. In 1995 Betsy was commissioned the first Archdeacon of the diocese, the first permanent deacon to hold the position. She is the mother of two children, and grandmother of two.
