I Will establish

The Collect for the day:

O God, your never-failing providence sets in order all things both in heaven and on earth: Put away from us all hurtful things, and give us those things that are profitable for us; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.

The LESSON: 2 Samuel 7: 9-17

And I have been with you wherever you went and have cut off all your enemies from before you. And I will make for you a great name, like the name of the great ones of the earth. 10 And I will appoint a place for my people Israel and will plant them, so that they may dwell in their own place and be disturbed no more. And violent men shall afflict them no more, as formerly, 11 from the time that I appointed judges over my people Israel. And I will give you rest from all your enemies. Moreover, the Lord declares to you that the Lord will make you a house. 12 When your days are fulfilled and you lie down with your fathers, I will raise up your offspring after you, who shall come from your body, and I will establish his kingdom. 13 He shall build a house for my name, and I will establish the throne of his kingdom forever. 14 I will be to him a father, and he shall be to me a son. When he commits iniquity, I will discipline him with the rod of men, with the stripes of the sons of men, 15 but my steadfast love will not depart from him, as I took it from Saul, whom I put away from before you. 16 And your house and your kingdom shall be made sure forever before me. Your throne shall be established forever.’” 17 In accordance with all these words, and in accordance with all this vision, Nathan spoke to David.

The Psalm: 89: 33-35

33   My covenant I will not break, *
nor alter the word that has gone out of my lips.
34 have sworn once by my holiness *
that I will not fail David.
16 With long life I will satisfy him, *
and show him my salvation.”

The LESSON: luke 1: 46-55

46  And Mary said,
“My soul magnifies the Lord,
47 and my spirit rejoices in God my Savior,
48 for he has looked on the humble estate of his servant.
   For behold, from now on all generations will call me blessed;
49 for he who is mighty has done great things for me,
   and holy is his name.
50 And his mercy is for those who fear him
   from generation to generation.
51 He has shown strength with his arm;
   he has scattered the proud in the thoughts of their hearts;
52 he has brought down the mighty from their thrones
   and exalted those of humble estate;
53 he has filled the hungry with good things,
   and the rich he has sent away empty.
54 He has helped his servant Israel,
   in remembrance of his mercy,
55 as he spoke to our fathers,
to Abraham and to his offspring forever.”
